Nanaimo Race Report
Round 5 of the Monster Energy CMRC Nationals was held this past weekend at the Wastelands in Nanaimo, BC. I was really excited coming into Nanaimo since it was my home town race and all my friends and family were there. Also because I won there last year. I was full of confidence and was ready to turn some heads. I hadn't had much time on the bike since Regina because of my leg injury. I only rode once in between these rounds but I did a lot of wakeboarding and boating and treated the couple of weeks that we had off like a vacation, still getting all of my workouts in though. My leg felt good but was still pretty sore when I had my boot and knee braces on. Anyways let's get to the race action.
I qualified 2nd which gave me a good gate pick. It was crucial this weekend to qualify well as there were probably only about a third of all the gates that were good. I got off to a good start and was battling with Aaron Harvey at the beginning. I dropped back a bit because the roost was so bad and felt like a swarm of bees hitting you. At around the half way point I tried to put a charge on but was unable to catch him. I rode smart for once and just settled for second. We had gapped the rest of the field by a large amount and the next moto was definitely going to be between us.
The second moto started off great as I got a second place start and quickly moved past Brock Hoyer. For the first three laps my bike kept cutting out and Harvey was able to catch up and make a move on me. I regathered myself a few laps later and set forth a hard charge. This second moto was probably the funniest races that I have done in a long time. I think Harvey and I swapped Leads about a dozen times before I was able to make a pass stick and put a few seconds on him. I could hear all the fans cheering me on everywhere around the track. Especially going by the beer gardens where Stan Slabota and Joey Sutherland had air horns tapped right out when ever I went by. I was full of determination to win this moto and it was looking as if I had this race in the bag with three laps to go when my bike broke and seized the motor. Before my bike quit I had a 10 second lead over Harvey and was riding very smooth. I was so upset when the bike died; I had worked so hard that moto and felt awesome. That's racing I guess. I think I need to go buy a bunch of horse shoes or something because it seems as though I have no luck this year, I have not let this ruin my confidence and we will have everything fixed for Edmonton and be ready to come out swinging again. I got nothing to loose from here on out and will be looking to just win moto's and make some money.
I would like to thank my trainer Drew from Evolved MX for helping me out before each moto and filling me full of confidence. My mechanic Mike for the countless hours he puts into my bike. Clearbrook Yamaha, Shift. Enzo, Ride Industries, Ogio, Cycra, Sunline, Gearne, Oakley, Sixsixone, my parents and all my fans for cheering me on. I'll get an overall before the series is out. Braaaaaaaaaaaaap, See ya at the races!!!
